July 19 (UPI) -- A Nova Scotia woman who hatched Pekin ducklings in an incubator said one of the eggs contained something shocking -- twin ducks connected by an umbilical cord.
Amber Brannen said she and her family hatched some Pekin duck eggs recently at their Yarmouth County home and one egg, which was no larger than the others, turned out to contain two babies.
"I was screaming to my husband, get over here now! Get the camera! Get the camera! No one was going to believe me. How is this possible? It was just amazing that they could fit in there," Brannen told The Vanguard.
"Once I cut them free they seemed pretty happy," Brannen said, "but I think they looked a little confused at first -- whoa, you're over there!"
Brannen's family dubbed the ducklings Nova and Scotia. She said they have decided to keep the ducks as pets.
"We plan to go away in a couple of weekends and I already have my mother lined up to babysit the ducks," she said.
