July 12 (UPI) -- A lion cub that fell into an 80-foot well in an Indian village was hoisted to safety by wildlife officials and the rescue was caught on camera.

A video captured Saturday in Amrapur village, in the Gir Somnath district of Gujarat state, shows the 2-year-old Asiatic lion cub being hoisted out of the 80-foot well by forest and wildlife officials, NDTV reported.

The video shows a rescuer in a protective cage being lowered into the well to lasso the young lion so it could be lifted to a waiting cage.

The rescue team was summoned to the well, according to the Deccan Chronicle, after the lion apparently fell into the pit late Friday night and was discovered by villagers early Saturday morning.

Officials said the lion will be released back into the wild after a veterinarian examines it.
