California mechanical engineer builds world's largest Super Soaker

July 12 (UPI) -- A mechanical engineer from California built the world's largest Super Soaker, capable of shattering glass with a forceful stream of water.

Mark Rober showed off the capabilities of the 7-foot-long water gun, which holds the Guinness World Record for the world's largest Super Soaker, on his YouTube channel by firing highly pressurized streams of water at various household items.

The massive water gun managed to slice watermelons, bananas and hot dogs in half, split open a soda can and shatter a line of wine goblets with jets of water traveling 272 mph.

Rober's substantial Super Soaker is pressurized at 2,400 pounds per square inch, eight times the pressure of a fire truck hose.

The California engineer, who previously constructed the world's largest Nerf gun, sought help from his friend Ken Glazebrook, of NASA's Jet Propulsion Labratory to design the gun and worked with Bob Clagett of YouTube channel I Like To Make Stuff to construct a wooden frame for the Super Soaker.

Rober and Claggett then covered the massive water gun in EVA foam and painted it to resemble the original Super Soaker design.

They then placed tanks filled with water and high pressure nitrogen gas in the handle to allow the enormous toy gun to release the powerful bursts of water.

It took Rober and his friends about six months to construct the record-breaking Super Soaker and he celebrated its completion with a water fight against family and friends armed with much smaller water guns.
