Police suspect illegal gambling behind highway horses viral video

July 10 (UPI) -- Police in India said they are investigating a viral video showing what may be an illegal horse race on a busy stretch of expressway.

Gautam Budh Nagar police said they opened an investigation after a viral video circulated on social media showed two men on horses running down the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway while accompanied by a group of motorcyclists.

Police said they reviewed CCTV footage and determined the incident took place about 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators said it is illegal to ride horses onto the expressway. They said detectives are probing whether the incident was a horse race for illegal gambling purposes.

Police said they are working to identify the bikers from their license plates in the hopes of tracking down the horses and their riders.
