British police use van door to take down thief on bicycle

July 10 (UPI) -- Security cameras in Britain were recording when police officers used a van door to knock over a thief attempting to escape on a bicycle.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council said the government's CCTV team spotted a man stealing items from a parked vehicle in Fulham last month and notified officers.

The CCTV footage shows a police van arriving at the scene just as the suspect is fleeing on a bicycle, which police said was stolen.

The police van is able to stop the fleeing suspect when an officer opens a door and knocks the man over.

The man, identified as Jake Nedd, was convicted of offenses stemming from the incident and was sentenced to 28 weeks in jail.
