July 6 (UPI) -- A nearly 8-foot python in Pennsylvania was reunited with its owner after slithering into a neighbor's yard.

Margo Rollins took the massive snake to Philadelphia's Animal Care and Control Team after she and her son spotted it slithering around their garden and front steps.

"We don't see pythons this large very often at ACCT Philly," an ACCT spokesperson said of the 12-pound snake. "We see a couple snakes a month but never this big so this is unusual."

ACCT staff cared for the python, which they nicknamed Petunia, until the snake's owner Salih El-Shabazz came to claim the pet he believes slithered out of his front door.

"Im surprised by all of the attention," Shabazz told CBS Philly. "Not surprised he really got out. He's usually out in the house sometimes. I can't really say it's surprising-I did have the door open."

Much of the attention came form the fact that Shabazz's neighbors weren't aware there was a snake living on the block.

"I've been on this block block for over 40 years. It was kinda new and then again it wasn't new. We used to say, 'always something going on on Tasker street,'" Rollins said.

Shabazz explained the snake's real name is Kaa and added the docile pet didn't pose a threat to neighbors while out on the loose.

"I have a few cats and kids so he's fine," he said. "[Kaa's] very domesticated and only aggressive when its time to eat. Other than that he's just another pet."
