Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe July 3 (UPI) -- A family visiting a Florida state park ended up chased off by a wild group of rhesus macaque monkeys and the encounter was caught on camera. Susie Ramsey of Estero said she and her family were visiting Silver Springs State Park on Thursday when they came across the group of wild monkeys. Advertisement A video recorded by Ramsey's young son and posted to YouTube shows the monkeys wandering around on a sidewalk and climbing on wooden railings at the park. The family discovers an even larger group of monkeys gathered just off the walking path, but the primates do not appear to enjoy being filmed, as they begin to chase the human intruders away. "Oh my god, guys the monkeys are attacking us!" the boy says through laughter in the video. Ramsey said no one was injured, but the encounter was more frightening than it appeared on video. "He was laughing, but it was actually VERY scary," she wrote on Facebook. Rhesus macaques, native to Asia, were brought to Silver Springs State Park in the 1930s as part of a river cruise attraction. Advertisement The University of Florida estimates up to 200 of the monkeys live in the region currently.
