"The bottom line is whoever is doing this is destroying property," St. Petersburg Assistant Police Chief Jim Previterra told WFLA. "They are marking up the beautiful downtown area of St. Petersburg."
The first butt drawing appeared in April, but the Tampa Bay Times reported a clue left near a recent tag may have helped determine the source of the images.
One piece of butt graffiti was accompanied by the phrase "neverfart," and a search of the hashtag ultimately led to the Instagram profile of Jeremy Trevino, which was filled with similar drawings of butts.
"I can neither confirm nor deny that," Trevino said when asked if he was responsible for the tags plastered throughout the city.
Trevino added he has seen people "poorly" recreate his original designs and said the artist behind the butt graffiti was likely in it "for the laughs."
"Part of it is probably just knowing these mature, grown, white-collar people are looking at these lowbrow butts," he said.
