David and Shelly Nobbs of La Verne said their daughter was taking the trash out around lunchtime Wednesday when she spotted the bear on her family's property. The woman filmed as the bear took a swim to beat the heat, which reached temperatures in the mid to high 80s Wednesday. The video shows the bear swim for a time in the pool before making several initially unsuccessful attempts to climb out. The bruin is eventually able to hoist itself by the front legs to an upper section of the pool, where it was able to exit the water and wander away. "It was scary for her, but she was amazed at the bear feeling so at home in our back yard," Shelly Nobbs told KABC-TV of her daughter's encounter. It was unclear whether the bear was the same animal caught on camera last month taking a dip in La Verne resident Vijay Kotrappa's backyard pool.
