The description for the money clip, which is embossed with the word "Prada" on one side, states that it's made from polished sterling silver and measures about 2.5 inches by .8 inches.
Customers looking to save $35 can get a similar paperclip from Barneys that lacks the prestige of a Prada logo.
Twitter users joked the expensive paperclip would render itself useless -- "By the time I buy the paperclip, there won't be enough [money] for it to hold," @tohrusoma_anna lamented.
"$185 for a paperclip? This thing better be able to hold my life together," @ElegantIife tweeted.
Online observers drew multiple comparisons between the money clip and Microsoft Office's animated Clippy.
"Prada is selling a $185 paper clip and it doesn't even help you write a resume," @FattMernandez joked.
The paperclip invoked multiple comparisons to other baffling high-end products offered online recently, including a $425 pair of jeans pre-caked with mud, a $1,245 pair of pre-destroyed sneakers, and an $85 rock in a leather pouch.
