Woman accidentally grabs snake while reaching for dog toy

June 19 (UPI) -- A California woman was startled after accidentally grabbing a snake while attempting to pick up what she thought was her dog's toy.

Ariel Rosso shared surveillance video of his wife, Carla Rosso, as she had the unexpected encounter with the snake outside their home.

"If you are going to pick your dog's toy in the dark, make sure it's not a live rattlesnake!" Ariel Rosso said.

His wife managed to escape the scene without being harmed as she high-stepped away from the area as the family's dog watched in confusion.

"Thankfully, my wife, Carla, was not bit, but she needs to work on running away skills!" he said.
