June 19 (UPI) -- A police officer in Florida stopped to interact with a wild bear he encountered crossing a local road.

Marion County Sheriff's Office shared video of an officer stopping his patrol car by a curious bear he spotted emerging from a wooded area.

"Deputy Remington met this very curious guy after he responded to a call in the Ocklawaha area," the sheriff's office said.

Remington called out "Hey buddy" to the bear as it crossed the road as the animal began slowly making its way toward the driver's side door.

The officer took a more cautious tone as the bear drew closer, pulling his car's door while the bear peeked through the small opening.

Florida Fish and Wild Life Commission said the officer's actions were dangerous and warned those who encounter a bear to not welcome it closer nor make eye contact.

Despite the possible danger, police said officers prefer moments like the bear encounters to those like an earlier incident involving a naked person.

"We realize that recently we posted a video of one of our deputies encountering a 'bare' person, but occasionally, they just encounter bears," police said.
