Ant throws comrade off table in act of insect savagery

June 16 (UPI) -- An astonished onlooker captured video of an ant making a "sacrifice" of a comrade by carrying the other insect to the side of a table and throwing it.

Mike Sanchez tweeted a short video showing an ant carrying a second ant on the top of a table.

The ant carries its apparent foe to the edge of the table and casually throws it to the ground, eliciting shocked laughter from the filmer.

"If this isn't the funniest ant sacrifice you've ever seen you're lying," Sanchez wrote.

It was unclear whether the discarded ant was alive at the time of the throw.

Commenters suggested the ants were reenacting scenes from films including The Lion King and 300.

"This was probably a historic moment in the ant kingdom but we will never know," @CABBIE96 tweeted.

Some suggested the ant was disposing of a dead ant's body. Ants are known to carry the deceased out of their colonies once they have begun to decompose.
