June 15 (UPI) -- Enthusiasts of vintage cycling gathered in London for an unusual race that saw the competitors keeping their balance on penny farthing bicycles.

The event, near St. Paul's Cathedral in London, featured dozens of riders on the high-wheeled bikes racing through a closed circuit before thousands of spectators.

The event featured both amateur and professional racers on penny farthing bikes, old style bicycles with one large wheel and a smaller wheel in back.
