June 12 (UPI) -- A California man's home security camera captured a confrontation between a garbage-picking mother bear and a coyote that seemed to have eyes for her cub.
Chris McDonald posted a video to YouTube showing the scene captured by the security camera outside his home in Los Angeles County's La Canada Flintridge.
The video shows the mother bear and cub picking through garbage bins in McDonald's driveway about 10:21 p.m. Wednesday when they attract the attention of a coyote.
The coyote attempts to get around the mother bear in an apparent attempt to reach either the cub or the trash, but is driven away by the larger predator.
The coyote makes repeated attempts to sneak past the bear, but the mother's protective instincts win the day.
