May 30 (UPI) -- Wildlife rescuers in Australia captured video when they were called to remove a kangaroo that fell into a canal and wasn't able to get himself out.

The Australia Zoo Rescue Unit said a crew responded to a canal on Queensland's Bribie Island after a young male kangaroo fell into the water and observers were concerned he would not escape before the tide rolled in.

"The Rescue Unit knew that they had to work quickly, the water levels were rising as the tide came in and it was only a matter of time before the barnacles on the rocks would cause serious injury to the kangaroo's feet," a post on the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors Facebook page said.

"The team followed the kangaroo down the canal until the exhausted animal couldn't go any further and decided to rest his weary paws on the kayak," the post said. "The team gently sedated the kangaroo and lifted him up out on dry land, where they washed his feet with disinfectant and waited for him to wake. It wasn't long before he found his feet and bounded into the nearby trees!"
