Several weeks latter Penny wandered into Elizabeth Givens backyard in Yukon, Okla., 200 miles away from where she went missing and 1,500 miles away from her home in Sacramento.
Givens found Bishop's contact information on the cat's tag and contacted her to begin the process of sending the beloved pet home.
"I started bawling when she called me about Penny," Bishop said. "Penny is part of our family. She's a protector. It's just a big thing for me and for our family for Penny to come home. And she traveled that far to get to someone to call me."
Givens launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her to fly to Sacramento to drop Penny back off with her family.
The campaign raised more than twice it's $1,000 goal and Givens presented some the excess funds to the Bishop family on a gift card.
"It's been a long road, but I'm happy to see the way it ended," Givens said.
Following their reunion Bishop expressed her gratitude to Givens for helping to bring Penny back home safely.
"I just want to say thank you. I just appreciate everything you all have done for me. It's like my heart is not broken anymore," she said.
