Black bear visits Alaska military base cafeteria

May 15 (UPI) -- A small black bear was caught on camera sniffing around a dining facility at an Alaska military base and was reluctant to leave the area.

The video shows the young bear sniffing around Thursday outside Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson's Iditarod dining facility, located near Anchorage.

The footage, recorded around noon, shows the bear wandering around the facility's loading dock while being filmed through a door window.

The bear was reluctant to leave, when when rangers shot pepper balls at it, officials said.

The bruin eventually wandered away from the area without incident.

Area wildlife photographers said they spotted their first black bear of the season wandering the JBER area Mary 3.
