May 11 (UPI) -- Fire crews in Texas helped rescue a kitten that found itself stranded on the side of a busy highway in the state's capital.

Austin Fire Department shared photos of the tiny grey kitten that was spotted on the shoulder of U.S. highway 183 on Monday by Good Samaritan, Karin Sanchez, who contacted the department.

The station's A-shift crew was sent to retrieve the female tabby kitten that was unharmed apart from a slight injury to her nose.

Fire crews thanked Sanchez for, who offered to foster the kitten, for informing them of the animal in distress.

"We are fostering the kitten until she is social enough and old enough to be spayed. We foster every now and then so we are happy to care for her until we find a good home," she said.

Sanchez was equally grateful to the fire department for taking her report seriously and responding in time to rescue the kitten.

"The best part is not a single person made me feel crazy or like a kitten on a highway wasn't important," she said. "They just came out and picked her up like it was part of their every day job."
