May 8 (UPI) -- Police and firefighters rescued a family of nine ducklings from a storm drain at an Indiana school and the operation was filmed by the principal.

Principal Tony Hiatt of Hanover Central Middle School in Cedar Lake had the camera rolling Friday morning when Officer Jason Allende, the officer on duty at the school, was joined by Cedar Lake police and firefighters to rescue the birds.

"It was operation duckling rescue at HCMS as 9 little ones ended up in the storm drains in the front parking lot. The CLPD and CLFD were on hand to assist. Special thanks to Officer Jason Allande for going above and beyond the call of duty," a post on the school's Facebook page said.

The ducklings were reunited with their worried mother and the family was last seen walking off toward a nearby retention pond.
