May 5 (UPI) -- An Oklahoma game warden rescued a baby owl spotted floating on a piece of driftwood with the help of a firefighter and his boat.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation said game warden Joe Alexander, based out of Washington County, responded Thursday to the flooded Double Creek on Oologah Lake after a resident reported seeing a baby owl stranded on a piece of driftwood.

Alexander determined the water was too high to wade out to the owlet, so he secured the help of Nowata firefighter Donald Belden and his boat.

A video of the rescue was posted to Facebook.

"It's what we do," Alexander told the Tulsa World. "Outside of our normal law-enforcement duties, we have a vested interest in our wildlife."

The owlet, which Alexander said may have fallen from its nest during recent storms, was taken to the Wild Heart Ranch in Foyil for rehabilitation.
