Chain boosts breakfast with 'espresso' caffeinated bagel

May 5 (UPI) -- A Colorado-based bagel chain is adding a little extra boost to its breakfast with a bagel containing half as much caffeine as a shot of espresso.

Einstein Bros. bagels, based in Lakewood, announced the creation of the Espresso Buzz Bagel, which contains 32 milligrams of caffeine -- about half of what's found in a typical shot of espresso.

The chain is also offering a breakfast sandwich version of the bagel topped with bacon and eggs, bringing it up to a whopping 600 calories.

The company's website includes an important, albeit obvious, disclaimer: "Drinking a caffeinated beverage with our bagel will result in higher levels of caffeine consumption."

Einstein Bros. said it will mark National Nurses Week by offering free Espresso Buzz Bagels to any nurses who visit one of the chain's locations May 11.
