April 21 (UPI) -- A North Carolina golfer took a break from his game to film a battle between two alligators at the shoreline of a water hazard.

The video, posted to YouTube by derekreed36d, shows a large alligator using its powerful jaws to clamp onto another gator and thrash it back and forth in the shallows of a water hazard on the 18th hole of the Panther's Run Golf Course at Ocean Ridge Plantation in Ocean Isle Beach.

Observers question whether the alligator at the receiving end of the punishment is already dead, but it begins to move and struggles against its attacker.

The alligator is eventually able to break free and swim away from its reptilian assailant.

The filmer estimated the alligators were about 12 feet long and 8 feet long.

"Incredible fight between two large North Carolina alligators. The fight began in the fairway of the 18th hole on Panthers Run Golf course in Ocean Ridge Plantation, and finished in the nearby pond. A territorial battle to remember!" the filmer wrote.
