April 20 (UPI) -- A man fishing from his kayak in Illinois threw a fish that was too small back into the water -- but the fish jumped right back into his boat.

The video, posted to YouTube by Water Hopper Ryan, shows Ryan out fishing in his kayak earlier this month in Carbondale, Ill.

Ryan catches a series of small fish and throws them back.

One of the fish, a crappie, lands on the surface of the water and immediately jumps back into the surprised fisherman's kayak.

Ryan struggles to catch the fish for several seconds before he is finally able to grab it and throw it further away from his boat.

"Get the heck out of here!" he says.

"Bad day of fishing but truly unique experience happened to me, while fishing a splitshot rig with a finesse worm! A crappie came back in the kayak!" he wrote in the video's description.
