April 12 (UPI) -- An ice cream-loving squirrel in North Carolina has become a regular customer at a local ice cream shop.

Owners Scott and Pam Martin of Fantasy Isle Ice Cream & Mini Golf in Holden Beach said the squirrel, named Putter, has been visiting the store for a daily treat since it first appeared in the area last summer.

According to the couple, Putter lives in a tree above the shop and stops in as often as twice a day for a special squirrel-sized cone.

"You can call her name and she will literally come out of her nest in one of these big trees and hop her way down to the roof to ultimately to the rail and waits on her cone," Scott Martin told KAGS.

In addition to collecting her daily snack, Putter also regularly interacts with and entertains the shop's customers.

"She's quite the little character," Scott Martin said. "She actually plays golf with the kids. She will run around the golf course and play with the golf balls. She's a cute little mascot. We are blessed to have her."

The Martins said Putter has become a popular attraction for the ice cream shop, as the community has embraced the ice cream-eating squirrel.

"One of the first things people ask for 'Is Putter here?" Pam Martin said. "Have you seen Putter today?' So they come and they know she's here and want to see her."
