April 4 (UPI) -- A horse was rescued from the bottom of an underground vault in California after falling down the hole.
The horse fell into the hole at around 9 p.m. on Saturday night near Arlington Avenue in Riverside.
It managed to climb up and jump out of the after about an hour as rescue crews arrived at the scene.
Riverside's Horse and Animal Rescue Team responded to the scene and assessed the horse's injuries.
"It's too dangerous for us to get in the hole with the animal until the animal is medicated so that was all ready to go. However when the vet arrived on scene, the horse got out on its own and we didn't have to rescue it," Fire Battalion Chief Jeff DeLaurie of the Riverside City Fire Department said.
The horse sustained lacerations on two of its legs, which a veterinarian at the scene determined would heal.
