Great white shark tries to steal bait from New Zealand fishing boat

March 23 (UPI) -- A New Zealand woman fishing off the country's coast recorded an encounter with a great white shark, which had apparently become a bit enamored with her bait.

Julie Buck posted the video to Instagram, showing the Carcharodon carcharias attempting to take her burly box filled with bait from the end of a rope tethered to her boat near Auckland.

Buck said the she was surprised to see the shark off Stanmore Bay, a spot she has previously frequented while fishing.

She said the encounter "turned into an amazing encounter with a fabulous animal."

The meet took place days after another fisherman was stalked by a massive great white shark in the same area.
