March 21 (UPI) -- A fan of the Legend of Zelda video game series created a home automation system based around the magical ocarina featured in the games.
Allen Pan, who operates the YouTube channel Sufficiently Advanced, connected a microphone to a Raspberry Pi miniature computer and programmed it to recognize songs from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to complete household tasks.
"With Zelda: Breath of the Wild out on the Nintendo Switch, I made a home automation system based off the Zelda series using the ocarina from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time," Pan said.
He is able to play a series of notes on the ocarina to prompt the computer to activate various mechanisms that lock and unlock his front door, turn his lights on and off and call his cellphone.
Each song's title is themed to its specific activity, including the "Song of Healing" which resets each module to its original state.
