March 16 (UPI) -- A sneaky raccoon broke into a New York bank to stay warm in the midst of a snowstorm.

Passerby Marc Elkaim spotted the mischievous raccoon in the window of the Chase Bank location in Forest Hills, Queens.

"I was just walking into my apartment and to the right is Chase, and I saw this raccoon — that was so strange," he said.

Elkaim, 50, speculated the raccoon made its way into the bank to find shelter and warmth as a snowstorm blew through the area.

"It was warm inside and probably felt comfortable," he said. "It was making its way up the chair on the branch representative's desk and into the window to see us."

Elkaim and his wife contacted 911, who speculated the curious critter managed to sneak into the bank through a hole in the roof.

The next day a trapper captured the raccoon and released it on private property a few miles away from the bank.
