Wind blows semi truck onto unoccupied police car in Wyoming

Feb. 13 (UPI) -- A rear-facing camera on a Wyoming State Highway Patrol vehicle captured the moment a semi tipped over in high winds and landed on an unoccupied cruiser.

The video, filmed Feb. 7 and posted to Facebook, shows the unoccupied car at the side of Interstate 80, near Elk Mountain, while troopers assisted drivers involved in previous crashes.

A semi comes up the roadway and starts to tip over in the high wind, landing on its side directly atop the empty police vehicle.

"The tractor trailer was traveling at a very reduced speed, 30 to 35 miles per hour," Lt. David Wagener told CNN. "A gust got the trailer and blew it onto the police car."

Two occupants of the truck were not injured, the highway patrol said.

"All we ask is that you please follow high wind advisories and closures when you are traveling in our great state. Even if you plan to travel at reduced speeds. Hopefully this video illustrates why," the highway patrol said in the Facebook post.

Wagener said the semi driver had ignored posted warnings banning lightweight or high profile vehicles from the road during the high speed winds.

The driver was cited with a misdemeanor for traveling on a closed section of interstate.
