Feb. 1 (UPI) -- A Nebraska man has been hailed as a Good Samaritan for freeing a squirrel that had its head stuck in a single-serve cereal bowl.

The Hope Center for Kids shared video of team member Joey Wolfe chasing the squirrel down the street outside the Omaha location in an attempt to pull it free.

"Today our staff noticed a squirrel outside The Hope Center for Kids Omaha with a container stuck on its head," the center said. "After attempting to remove the box using a broom, our team member Joey Wolfe courageously rescued our new friend!"

Wolfe initially thought the squirrel was wearing a "little hat" but made a double take and decided to help the confused animal, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

"There were a couple of times he jumped out of the way of an oncoming car or truck," he said "It would have been really sad to come out later that day to see a squirrel with a cereal bowl on his head, dead in the street. It would have been a tragic thing."

He ultimately managed to chase down the squirrel and pop the container off its head as onlookers cheered and the squirrel was able to continue about its day.

The center said Wolfe's determination personified their mission of hope, while he was happy to provide good news for those in need.

"The last two weeks haven't been the best for a lot of people," he said. "Even if this is the smallest thing I can do to make things better, maybe it will brighten up someone else's day a little bit."
