Jan. 24 (UPI) -- An Ohio resident captured video of firefighters rescuing a deer that became stranded on a frozen pond while the ice was audibly breaking.

The Jefferson Township resident captured the footage Sunday morning of firefighters working to rescue the animal, which appeared to be trapped on the ice of the frozen water.

The video shows the firefighters standing on thick areas of the ice and using a long red line to guide the deer toward shore.

One of the rescuers can be seen petting the deer and snapping a selfie before it wandered off into the woods.

"If you listen to the video you can hear the ice cracking!" the resident wrote. "We are so grateful for our fireman! Not only do they save the lives of people they also are willing to help our wildlife."
