Jan. 23 (UPI) -- A sky diver in Portugal was recording with his GoPro when he dropped the camera mid-flight and made an incredibly lucky catch with his legs.

The video recorded by a sky diver participating in a New Year's Eve festival in Algarve shows the man holding the camera while about 3,000 feet in the air.

The sky diver's camera comes loose from his helmet and slow-motion footage shows it drifting away from the man before he was able to kick out his legs and catch it.

"So I was practicing swooping up high and I hit it off with my slider and in that moment time slowed down and I looked at it and how high I was so my ninja skills kicked in and caught it with my legs!" the sky diver wrote online. "I was about 3,000 ft in the air and I was thinking where am I going to hold it as I need my hands free for my handles."
