WASHINGTON, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A senator's baby granddaughter stole the spotlight during a swearing-in photo op when she snubbed Vice President Joe Biden as he leaned in for a kiss.

Biden was posing for pictures Monday with the family of Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., when he went for the classic politician move of planting a smooch on the senator's baby granddaughter.

Video of the encounter shows Biden lean in, only to end up kissing the air as the baby pulls away from his offer of affection.

Biden, amused by the snub, attempted to win the baby's attention -- just as the photographer was attempting to get the vice president's attention.

"We're having a conversation!" Biden joked, with the baby chiming in with a yelp of agreement.
