Eight of the escaped cattle were eventually secured after a second trailer arrived at the scene, but two escaped into oncoming traffic.
Two secondary crashes related to the escaped cattle occurred and four were shot and killed for public safety reasons.
"The Nebraska Humane Society, Omaha Police Department, Arrow Towing, and Omaha Fire all assisted by blocking roadways and bringing panel gates to the scene," a release said, according to KETV.
The roads re-opened after about four hours at 1:40 a.m. on Friday with all cattle accounted for.
Police have yet to determine the cause of the original crash.
