FRISCO, Texas, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- An old, frostbitten horse was rescued from a killing farm after appealing to a group that arrived to save several donkeys.

Becky's Hope Horse Rescue shared a photo of the skinny, grey horse named Bubbles, which ignored commands from the lot's employees and approached the group's trailer in hopes of finding a new home.

"We stood there staring as this old guy with crumbled ears from frostbite waited patiently for the group of mini donkeys to catch up so he could jump on the 'freedom trailer' out of there," the rescue group said. "There was just no way we could leave him behind!"

Sue Chapman of Becky's Hope Horse Rescue told WFAA-TV in Dallas the old horse captured their hearts with his calm and patient demeanor, as he patiently waited for his turn to join the donkeys on the trailer.

"He just stood there patiently. He didn't try to shoo the donkeys away. He didn't try to fight with them. He just stood there like 'I'm a donkey and you don't realize that I look any different,'" she said.

She added she was unsure whether the horse believed he was the donkey's caretakers or not, but believed this would likely be his last opportunity to find a happy home.

"There is no way that a frost-bitten 25-year-old gelding with the personality of a giant lap dog was going to be rescued by someone," Chapman said.

The rescue group was ultimately able to raise enough money to bail Bubbles out and he continues to spend time with the donkeys.

"Bubbles is now safe here at Becky's Hope where he continues to hang out with his mini donkey cohorts," the group said.
