Oregon police use canoe to rescue deer stranded in middle of frozen pond

THE DALLES , Ore., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Police in Oregon slid a canoe across a frozen pond to help rescue a young deer stranded in the middle of the ice.

Oregon State Police shared photos of officers venturing into the middle of the pond to rescue the yearling.

A passing motorist spotted the stranded deer who was struggling to stand due to lack of traction on the ice, KGW reported.

State police responded to the 911 call and used the drift boat to cross the pond where a state wildlife biologist carried it back to solid ground.

"Once the rescuers were able to get the animal off of the ice, it ran off into the woods and is expected to make a full recovery," police said
