One of the women gets into her white SUV, revs the engine, and rams into the other woman's silver SUV, damaging the side of the vehicle and nearly removing a passenger-side door.
The vehicles crash into each other repeatedly in a demolition derby-style battle in the small parking lot.
The SUVs end up on the street, where the white vehicle hits the silver vehicle one last time before crashing into a fire hydrant, which shoots water high into the air.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said crews were dispatched to repair the damaged hydrant.
Yaya Shabazz, 33, of Atlanta, identified herself as the driver of the white SUV. She said the argument began when the two vehicles bumped each other on the road and pulled over the exchange insurance information.
"She run up on my car and snatched my door open and I threw my hands up in the air like, I don't know what's going on, I don't know you girls," Shabazz told NBC Los Angeles. "She said, 'You cut me off.' I said, 'I didn't, but I'm sorry.' I didn't cut them off."
Shabazz said she got back into her SUV because the other woman was armed with a hammer.
"I wasn't trying to hurt anyone. I was just trying to get away," Shabazz said. "I hear a loud noise. I think it's a gun, they're saying they're going to hurt me and I'm just trying to get away."
Police said an investigation into the incident has been opened and both women could potentially face charges.
