FLORENCE, Miss., Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Authorities in Mississippi said a yard escape ended several hours later with the safe capture of an unusual pet -- a kangaroo.
Ashley Ford of Florence said an unknown culprit opened the gate outside her home Tuesday, releasing her dogs and Boomer the kangaroo.
Ford said the dogs were quickly rounded up, but the Rankin County Sheriff's Office was summoned to help search for Boomer.
Sheriff Bryan Bailey said deputies spotted the marsupial near Highway 49 Tuesday evening and attempted to tranquilize him, but the kangaroo managed to escape.
Deputies again located the kangaroo about 3:45 a.m. Wednesday and Ford's husband, Justin, was summoned to the scene, where he was able to coax Boomer into going home with him.
"[Boomer] has minor injuries but will be OK and is back home and inside for now," Ford wrote on Facebook. "If anyone hears anything about who did this, we would still like to know."
