DETROIT, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- A drone pilot in Detroit filmed his attempt to rescue a friend's drone from the roof of a tall building -- but the operation didn't go according to plan.

The video, posted to YouTube by user Random Axe, shows the rescue drone's perspective as the pilot locates the crashed DJI Phantom 3 on a downtown rooftop.

The pilot, with some help from security guards, affixes a long rope to the drone and sends it back into the air to retrieve the crashed device.

It takes the man several tries to hook the other drone in the heavy wind, but he is eventually able to lift it off the roof.

The operation hits a snare, however, when the would-be rescued drone hits the side of the building and falls to the ground below.

The men rush over to the fallen drone and discover the "damage wasn't that bad," text in the video reads.

A closing scene shows the owner of the damaged drone was able to trade it for a brand new one at the store where he bought the device.
