KRUGER NATIONAL PARK, South Africa, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A curious lion at a South African game reserve was filmed wandering a single foot away from a calm ranger.

The video, filmed earlier in the fall at Kruger National Park's Kapama Private Game Reserve, shows the lion lounging next to a tree before realizing he's being watched.

The lion wanders close to the safari group and approaches a man sitting in a chair at the front of the safari vehicle. The animal sniffs at the man from about a foot away, but doesn't make any aggressive moves.

The filmer said the ranger explained that by keeping still during the encounter, he allowed the lion to believe he was a part of the vehicle instead of potential prey.
