DEZHOU, China, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Officials at a Chinese zoo admitted that one of the animals in its wolf enclosure isn't a wolf at all -- it's a Siberian husky.

Alarm was raised among Chinese animal lovers when a video emerged showing the Siberian husky with an apparent leg injury Nov. 6 inside the wolf enclosure at the Dezhou Zoo in Shandong Province.

Zoo officials admitted the dog was placed with the wolves to make the exhibit more interesting for visitors, but they said the domesticated canine is "respected" by the wolves and the dog's leg injury was the result of an accident rather than an attack.

The zoo said the husky has been temporary removed from the enclosure to allow its leg wound to heal.
