STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- A Swedish man posted an eBay listing offering to marry Americans seeking to move out of the country after Donald Trump was elected president.
Gustav Hallen, 30, listed his auction with a starting price of $50,000 for "Swedish Citizenship including marriage" before his post was taken down, according to CNN.
"U.S. just become the land of the free to leave. Why not move to a better place? Like Sweden," Hallen's post read. "Open for all suggestions female, male and others. Likes long walks and Netflix and chill."
Hallen told The Local he created the listing as a joke in response to the U.S. presidential election on Facebook.
"I didn't really think it through. It felt like a fun thing for my friends on Facebook: the feeling there was so gloomy I thought I could maybe take the problem on from another angle, with a lot of irony, and invite people to laugh a bit instead," he said.
Hallen, a 6-foot-tall photographer, art director and surf instructor did not receive any bids before the listing was removed and said he placed the price so high both to ensure it wasn't bid on and to "put a price on the 'dream of freedom'" of life in Sweden.
"I set the price so high that I wouldn't get an offer. It was just for fun. Then I saw a lot of people were sharing it. The best thing was the reaction. People laughed at it," he said.
Hallen joked about following through with the listing if someone were to actually bid, but said he would "have to figure out how to tell my mom and dad."
