"It had already charged at him a number of times and quite large horns, so he was able to subdue it somewhat, but couldn't let go of it through fear of further injury," Paramedic Stuart Cutajar said.
A Queensland ambulance spokesman told the Gold Coast Bulletin he held onto the goat for about an hour, as he called for neighbors to help.
Paramedics treated him on the scene for cuts, abrasions and dehydration and was later taken to a local hospital.
The man remained in the hospital in stable condition and suffered only scratches and bruises.
"He can see the light side to it but he's very dehydrated and exhausted after the incident," Cutajar said.
