Thousands climb 103 flights of stairs at Chicago's Willis Tower

CHICAGO, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- More than 3,000 people scaled 103 flights of stairs at Chicago's Willis Tower for the 8th annual Skyrise Chicago stair climb.

The event Sunday saw more than 3,000 people take to the more than 2,100 stairs in the Willis Tower, formerly known as the Sears Tower, to raise about $1 million for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

Sen. Mark Kirk, R-Ill., a former RIC patient, was among the stair climbers for the fourth time.

Organizers said the best time for this year's event was just over 13 minutes.
