Dutch man solves Rubik's cube in 4.74 seconds to break world record

BLITAR, Indonesia, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- A Dutch Rubik's cube master set a new world record for solving the puzzle by completing a cube in 4.74 seconds.

Mats Valk was competing Sunday at the Jawa Timur Open in Indonesia when he solved a Rubik's cube with an official time of 4.74 seconds.

Valk's record-breaking solve came during the second round of the competition, which Valk won with an average time of 8.53 seconds.

The accomplishment bested the previous record of 4.90 seconds, set by then-14-year-old Maryland high school student Lucas Etter in 2015.
