YONKERS, N.Y., Nov. 3 (UPI) -- A New York programmer put his skills to festive use by creating a giant-sized Game Boy Halloween costume that actually works.

Patrick Van Tassell posted a video to Facebook showing off his creation, a torso-sized Nintendo Game Boy affixed to his front that actually plays Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3.

The bichromatic 8-bit game is controlled using the giant-sized buttons on the replica of Nintendo's first hand-held gaming system, released in 1989.

Van Tassell, who studied game development and design in college before working as quality assurance lead for New York's High Five Games, shows off his Game Boy skills by playing through the first level of the game while watching the screen on his chest upside-down.

He explained the costume's creation in a Reddit post.

"I used a rooted 10" Android tablet, changed the resolution, and wired the buttons to a USB NES controller," he wrote.
