LISHUI, China, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- A toddler was filmed by road cameras going against traffic in his toy car on a busy Chinese road until he was grabbed by a police officer.

Traffic camera footage from the busy road in Lishui, Zhejiang Province, shows the boy, reported to be only 1 year old, scooting his toy car against traffic during rush hour while vehicles swerve around him.

The boy is eventually grabbed by a police officer and carried to safety.

"The boy was dangerously close to traffic, so I picked him up and took him onto the pavement," the police officer, Wu Feng, told reporters. "He told me he had become separated from his mother and was looking for her."

The boy was reunited with his mother, who was located nearby.

The World Health Organization's representative in China said the incident highlighted the need for additional road safety regulations in the country.

"Much more needs to be done to spur the adoption of measures to raise road safety, especially with respect to children," the representative, Bernhard Schwartlander, told the state-run China Daily.
