TOTOWA, N.J., Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Firefighters in New Jersey used a hydraulic spreader tool to rescue a deer that trapped itself between two bars in a fence surrounding a cemetery.
The Totowa Fire Rescue team responded about 6:15 a.m. Sunday to the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, where the deer was wedged halfway through two of the metal bars of the perimeter fence.
The team put a blanket over the deer's head to keep it calm while they used a hydraulic spreader to separate the bars enough for it to walk out on its own.
Video of the rescue captured by Ron Bombaro and posted to YouTube shows there was a brief moment when it appeared the deer might end up trapped a second time when it tried to squeeze between two other bars, but it apparently changed its mind and walked away from the fence.
Firefighters said the deer suffered a wound to its side, but is expected to fully recover.
