PICKERINGTON , Ohio, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- A deer burst through a window and ransacked an Ohio woman's home while she was out running errands.

Pickerington police arrived to the scene in disbelief after receiving a call about a 300-pound, 10-point buck causing havoc in the home, according to WCMH.

"When we got there, I looked over at my sergeant and I said, 'This might be legitimate,'" Officer Thomas Spreen said. "So we looked through a window, and there was a male buck rummaging through the house, running back and forth and trying various exits to exit the home."

Resident Meredith Walt returned from running errands to find the deer had run frantically about her home, leaving glass and blood scattered throughout.

"I thought he was joking. My neighbor. I couldn't believe that happened and then once we went into the house you can't be upset. Like how often does something like that happen?" Walt told WSYX. "We still have a couch and a chair and a coffee table which was pretty sturdy. I believe he landed right on the coffee table and slid off from there but we still hang out in there."

The deer was heard banging its head against the back door, as police managed to knock the door down and set the deer free.

"Once we were able to open up the storm door and give it a clear path, it just ran off back into the wilderness," Spreen said.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources said the deer likely jumped through the window after mistaking it for an opening in a fence row or brush.

Walt said deer are not necessarily common in the area and she plans to reference the bizarre incident as she redecorates her home.

"I think I might get some decorative antlers to hang above that window once everything is repaired," Walt said.
